Recent trails have suggested that the new drug called Donanemab slows the progression of Alzheimer’s disease symptoms.
This could be a ‘turning point’ in the fight against the disease.
The new drug was found to slow the decline of symptoms allowing those with Alzheimer’s to continue doing day to day tasks such as taking medication, living independently, and managing their own finances.
Donanemab works by removing plaques of a protein called amyloid that build up in the brain of people with Alzheimer’s, slowing the progression right down. The drug was trailed across an 18-month period and found the pace of the disease slowed by around 36%
We do hope this is a step in the right direction for anyone navigating dementia.
